about WDI
The WEOG Decarbonization Initiative (WDI) is a bold, comprehensive strategy addressing energy poverty, environmental degradation, and climate change. It aims to position Nigeria—and Africa—as a global hub for sustainable innovation and leadership.
vision
To create a world where sustainable energy is accessible to all, ecosystems are protected through bold climate actions, and nations—especially across Africa—thrive as beacons of low-carbon development, environmental stewardship, and technological innovation.
Mission
To drive impactful, inclusive, and science-based decarbonization strategies that reduce emissions, combat energy poverty, and foster climate resilience—through innovative projects, community engagement, and global collaboration—positioning Nigeria and Africa as leaders in the global sustainability movement.
Our major projects include:

Celebrating the First Ever World Decarbonization Day – September 3
Today marks a historic turning point in the global journey toward climate responsibility—and it begins with the unwavering resolve of women. On behalf of the Future Energy, Renewables, and Climate Action (FERCA) Committee of the Women in Energy, Oil and Gas (WEOG), we proudly declare and celebrate September 3 as World Decarbonization Day—a day that speaks to innovation, responsibility, and inclusive progress.
WEOG has long stood on three powerful pillars: bridging the gender gap, closing the energy poverty gap, and addressing the energy economic gap. But how can these gaps be truly bridged without decarbonization at the core?
We recognize that natural resources—especially in countries like Nigeria—have often been painted as culprits of pollution. Yet, with technology, innovation, and knowledge, we can explore, produce, and use these resources responsibly while meeting global net-zero goals.
