The WEOG Decarbonization Initiative encompasses several key projects designed to drive impactful change and address the urgent challenges of sustainable energy transition, Net-zero emission, climate change, environmental sustainability, and the sustainable utilization of our natural resources:
To realize our vision, the FERCA Sectoral Committee within WEOG has developed the WEOG Decarbonization Initiative—a comprehensive strategy encompassing impactful projects designed to drive global decarbonization and sustainability. Our initiative includes:
World Decarbonization Day
An annual event on September 3rd that mobilizes global action to reduce carbon emissions and advocate for sustainable energy practices.
Annual World Decarbonization Summit
A premier event that brings together leaders, experts, and stakeholders to discuss strategies, share innovations, and collaborate on creating a low-carbon world. The summit emphasizes sustainable resource management and collaborative decarbonization solutions to address climate challenges.
Monthly Decarbonization Webinars
Regular educational sessions that provide insights into the latest advancements in decarbonization technologies and practices, fostering ongoing learning and engagement.
10 Million Tree Decarbonization Project
This ambitious initiative focuses on reforestation and afforestation to combat climate change. By planting ten million trees, with an average of 13,000 trees in each of Nigeria's 774 local governments, we aim to significantly enhance carbon sequestration, capture atmospheric carbon, and offset emissions. This project will help reduce carbon emissions, improve air quality, and contribute to our overarching goal of achieving net-zero emissions. It represents a critical step in fostering a healthier planet and addressing global climate challenges.
Clean Cooking Project
Promoting cleaner, more efficient cooking technologies to improve health outcomes and reduce emissions from conventional cooking methods. This project targets underserved communities to address energy poverty and improve living conditions.
Renewable Energy Project
his initiative aims to create a balanced energy mix, reduce pollution, and address energy poverty. By focusing on sustainable energy solutions, we seek to improve energy access and extend the benefits of clean energy to underserved communities. This project contributes to a more equitable and environmentally friendly energy landscape, ensuring that the advantages of renewable energy are accessible to all.
Low-Emission Transportation Project
The Low-Emission Transportation Project, as part of the WEOG Decarbonization Initiative strives to create a more sustainable and eco-friendly transportation network by integrating advanced technologies and cleaner fuels, contributing to WEOG's broader goals of decarbonization and environmental stewardship. It includes several key components:
CNG Conversion Joint Project
Aims to facilitate the conversion of existing vehicles from gasoline or diesel to compressed natural gas (CNG), a cleaner alternative that lowers carbon emissions and minimizes environmental impact.
Eletric Vehicle EV
Electric Vehicle (EV) Subproject: Encouraging the adoption of electric vehicles to replace conventional internal combustion engine vehicles, to reduce transportation-related emissions and promote sustainable mobility. This initiative supports the transition to cleaner transportation options and aligns with our commitment to reducing carbon footprints.
WEOG National Decarbonization Park
A groundbreaking demonstration site for decarbonization technologies and green practices. This educational resource showcases innovative approaches to reducing carbon footprints and includes a tourist center dedicated to exploring and promoting decarbonization solutions.
