About World Decarbonization Day
A global initiative to raise awareness and promote actions towards achieving net-zero emissions. The Women in Energy Oil and Gas (WEOG) Nigeria have adopted September 3 as World Decarbonization Day, a day to raise awareness for the different decarbonization options thereby bringing net zero. it to the radar of the entire world. The day shall be marked globally and annually. We seek the presidency’s support to get this adopted by the entire international community.
Inspiration for WDD
Our commitment is fueled by the stark reality of energy poverty experienced worldwide, particularly in developing nations like Nigeria. We recognize the vast potential of our natural resources to shift from scarcity to abundance. The urgent need to address the negative perception of natural resources, the imperative to reduce carbon emissions, and the global push towards net-zero targets inspire our work. We understand that the impacts of energy poverty, environmental pollution, and climate change disproportionately affect women. Embracing the belief that “if it’s got to be, it is up to us,” we take responsibility for leading decarbonization efforts and positioning Nigeria as a global leader in Decarbonization and Sustainability.
